James swiped the web away from his face then had to pull it off his hands. He finally got all the web off and looked around the gloomy basement. In all this darkness, he was sure to walk into any number of webs. Still, he wanted to get to his dad's footlocker so that he could see his dad's medals from the war. If his dad wouldn't talk about it with him, James would find out for himself. The problem was that he didn't even know exactly where the trunk was located. He headed towards one of the head-high windows that was grimy with clots of dirt. James wondered if his dad had already gotten rid of the trunk. But then he saw it. It was a dark, low box about as long as a shovel.
